Why forms?

In one year alone, Americans spend nearly 10 billion hours filling out government forms. The experience can feel like a tedious barrier and prevent us from getting essential services.

Recognizing this challenge, The Lab @ DC and Mayor Muriel Bowser hosted the first-ever Form-a-Palooza in 2017. It brought together residents and city staff to remake five District government forms. Now in 2018, we're doing it again!

When and where is Form-a-Palooza?

Form-a-Palooza 2018 is Saturday, June 30 from 8:30am-3:00pm at Ron Brown High School

How does Form-a-Palooza work?

At the event, you’ll choose one form to work on with a small group of fellow residents. Your goal? To produce a rough prototype of a new and improved version of your form! To help guide you, you’ll hear from the government agency who owns the form, as well as experts in user-centered design, plain language, and behavioral insights. See the full agenda.

No experience needed. All are welcome and needed!

Preregisteration is encouraged, but not required.

How did you pick the forms for revision?

In April, we asked you, the public, and our government colleagues, which forms needed an overhaul. From those 60+ nominations, we picked these five to work on at Form-a-Palooza 2018 based on volume of use and need:

Can I bring my kids to Form-a-Palooza?

Free childcare will be provided at the event from 8:30am-3:00pm for children ages 2-8 years old. Preregisteration is highly recommended as spots are limited. Younger and older children are welcome to stay with their parents throughout the event, but activities are geared for adults.
